Austal Achieves Significant Milestone On High Speed Support Vessels

Austal is pleased to announce the bridge layout for two 72 metre High Speed Support Vessels (HSSVs) for the Royal Navy of Oman has been formally approved during a ceremony held at Austal Australia’s shipyard in Henderson, Western Australia today.

To celebrate this significant milestone, Rear Admiral Abdullah Khamis Al Raisi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman, was guest of honour. He was joined by Commodore Khalifa Hamed Al Qasmi and the onsite Royal Navy of Oman Representatives (RNOR); Captain Abdulhameed Al Sinani, Commander Mudhafar Al Riyami, Lieutenant Commander Mohammed Al Badri and Lieutenant Commander Mubarak Al Kasbi.

Rear Admiral Abdullah Khamis Al Raisi said: ”It was very rewarding during this visit to see the progress and quality of the vessel under construction. It is testament to the working relationship between ourselves and Austal and I hope this will continue until acceptance of the vessels.”

Austal Australian President Graham Backhouse said: “Once again this demonstrates Austal’s credentials in terms of delivering customer requirements on schedule. Our ability to deliver on this key milestone reflects Austal’s position as an internationally competitive defence prime contractor and partner of choice for governments and defence agencies both nationally and internationally.”

Austal was awarded a US$124.9 million contract for the design, construction and integrated logistics support of two HSSVs in March 2014. The vessels are being designed and constructed at Austal Australia’s Henderson Shipyard. Construction has commenced as planned and both vessels are expected to be delivered in CY2016.

Apart from the HSSVs, Austal Australia is also prime contractor for eight Cape Class Patrol Boats for the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service being designed and constructed at its Henderson Shipyard. In the United States, Austal USA is delivering ten Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) and ten Joint High Speed Vessels (JHSV) for the United States Navy, at the Company’s shipyard in Mobile, Alabama.
