Austal Australia has been delivering commercial and defence vessels for a diverse range of customers for over 28 years, including commercial and government ferry operators, cruise ship operators, offshore utility vessel operators and now, navies and other defence fleet operators.

With the establishment of Austal Philippines in 2012, as the Austal Group’s global centre for commercial vessel design, development and construction, Austal Australia has become the company's hub for defence vessel design, construction and support in Australasia – delivering customised solutions for customers worldwide.

Whilst Austal Australia continues to provide industry-leading commercial vessel support, the local operations’ clear commitment is to the development of local and export naval and defence vessel programs, such as the Cape Class Patrol Boat (CCPB) Program for the Australian Border Force and the High Speed Support Vessel (HSSV) Program for the Royal Naval of Oman.

Australian Border Force

The Australian Border Force (ABF), based in Canberra, is the Australian Government agency responsible for providing a broad range of customs and protection services throughout Australia, its borders and gateways.

The new Cape Class Patrol Boat (CCPB) fleet will play a significant role in Australia’s border security by maintaining a highly effective presence around Australia’s coastline - responding to reported or suspected border incidents and illegal activity.

The ABF’s Cape Class Patrol Boats have the capability to operate to the full extent of the Australian 200 nautical mile Exclusive Economic Zone and will have the capacity to conduct operations in all coastal and open ocean environments.

Austal Australia is designing, constructing and providing in-service support for eight Cape Class Patrol Boats; all have been delivered on schedule and within budget to the ABF.

Royal Navy of Oman

The Sultanate of Oman (Arabic: عُمان‎ سلطنة Salṭanat ʻUmān), is an Arab state on the southeast coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It has a strategically important position at the mouth of the Persian Gulf. Oman is bordered by the United Arab Emirates to the northwest, Saudi Arabia to the west and Yemen to the southwest - and also shares marine borders with Iran and Pakistan. The coast is formed by the Arabian Sea on the southeast and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast.

The Royal Navy of Oman engaged Austal Australia to design, construct and provide in-service support for two (2) High Speed Support Vessels (HSSV’s).
